Reorganize your roadmap with Drag & Drop

Planning a project often requires regular adjustments to the hierarchical structure: moving a project to another project portfolio, reorganizing actions within a workpackage, repositioning a task in the right place, etc.

To help you manage these organizations quickly and intuitively, Tabsters introduces new drag & drop functionality, including the Drag & Drop feature available in the Roadmap tab.

Thanks to drag & drop, you can now :

- Change the order in which your elements are displayed in the Roadmap (projects, batches, actions, tasks).

- Move an element to another parent (e.g. from one workpackage to another, or from one project to another).

- Increase productivity in your planning and review phases.

How does it work?

In your project portfolio :

Access the Roadmap

1. Go to the Roadmap tab of a project portfolio or project.

2. This hierarchical view shows you the tree structure of your elements.

Locate the move icon

1. Hover over an item (project, workpackage, action or task).

2. A movement icon in the form of six small dots appears on the left.

3. Your cursor changes to indicate that dragging is possible.

Drag and drop

1. Click on the move icon.

2. Hold down the click and drag the element to the desired location:

- Within the same parent to change the order

- Or to another parent (equivalent to a cut/paste action).

3. Release the click to confirm the move.

Save order

When you reorganize your projects, batches, actions or tasks via drag & drop in the Roadmap tab, you have two options for saving the new order:

  • At element level (1): You can also save the order directly at element level (e.g. a project in a project portfolio or a workpackage in a project) by clicking on the card logo at the top left of its line. If you have administrative rights, this saves only the order of this element within its parent.
  • Scale to view (2): You can then save this new order in your view for later export. This preserves the current view. Click on the floppy disk icon or select "Save view".

Order display: the #Order field

To help visualize the current position of an element, a new #Order field is now available in the Roadmap view.

  • It indicates the position of the element within its parent.
  • Useful for quickly checking whether the order matches your expectations, especially after a slip.

To display the #Order column :

  • Click on the table icon: this opens the menu for selecting the columns to be displayed.
  • Type "Order" in the search bar: this will make it easier to find the column you're looking for.
  • Check the box associated with the " Order " column: this will add the column to your display.
  • Move the "Order" column up to the first position: You can usually do this by dragging it up or to the left, depending on the interface.

The #Order column represents the hierarchical position or execution sequence of the elements listed in the table.

It corresponds to a logical or chronological order in which projects, actions and task packages are positioned hierarchically.

Once you've adjusted the order of the lines to suit your needs :

  • Click on the small icon at the top right of your table.
  • Select the "Update line order (from view)" option: This saves the current order of elements as they appear on screen.

Refresh page: After reloading, the #Order column will reflect the order you defined.

Drag & Drop requirements

  • It is only available in the Roadmap tab.
  • No sorting, filtering or collapse must be active in the view.
  • You must have editing or administrative rights to the items you are moving.
  • If you have read-only rights, any changes you make will only be saved in your own view.

Tabsters Tips

  • Plan before you move: make sure the new hierarchy or order meets an organizational need.
  • Use the #Order field to check the final position after each move.
  • Communicate your changes if you share the view with other team members.

Tabsters' drag & drop and #Order fields in the Roadmap make project management more flexible and intuitive. It lets you do it in just a few clicks, without leaving your planning.
